An Australian businessman acquitted of fraud charges in Dubai after spending three-and-a-half years under arrest has returned home, relieved that justice has been served.

Matthew Joyce arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday, more than a month after the Dubai Court of Appeal acquitted him of fraud-related charges for which he was sentenced to a decade in prison and fined $25 million in May.

"To have charges levelled against me that we knew were false was very difficult," Mr Reeves told journalists at Melbourne Airport.

"Now safely back in Australia, we're busting to catch up with family."

Mr Joyce spent three-and-a-half years under effective house arrest in Dubai.

He thanked Australian diplomatic staff as well as former prime minister Malcolm Fraser and Liberal senator Helen Kroger for their assistance.

In early November, it was revealed Prime Minister Tony Abbott met with the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, just 12 days before Australians Matthew Joyce and Marcus Lee were acquitted.

"Throughout our ordeal we've always maintained my innocence. Now seven judges and three courts across two countries have found me innocent," he said.

"Justice has finally been served."
