Australian eighth seed Marinko Matosevic has advanced to the second round of the ATP Atlanta Open on the back of a straight-sets triumph on Tuesday.
Matosevic beat Dominican Victor Estrella Burgos 6-0 6-2 in the first American hardcourt warm-up event ahead of next month's US Open.
It was Burgos' second defeat to an Australian in less than a week, after Bernard Tomic toppled him in the semi-final of Colombia's Claro Open en route to winning the title.
Matosevic will next face America's Tim Smyczek, who ripped countryman Ryan Harrison 6-0 6-2 in their first-round clash.
A win over Smyczek would pit him against either US top-seed and defending champion John Isner, who received a first-round bye, or American wildcard Robby Ginepri.
Meanwhile, Australian qualifier Michael Venus faces a tough task against American Jack Sock, who beat Colombian Alejandro Gonzalez 6-2 6-4 in the opening round.
Venus replaced third-seed Gael Monfils in the main draw after the Frenchman pulled out due to injury.
The news was not so great for Queenslander John-Patrick Smith, ousted by Ukraine's Illya Marchenko 6-4 6-4, and fellow Australian Matthew Ebden, who went down 6-4 6-2 to Germany's Benjamin Becker.
In the day's other matches, Uzbek sixth seed Denis Istomin knocked out American Rajeev Ram, Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker downed Canada's Steven Diez, Ginepri outlasted Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, and Slovakian Lukas Lacko bettered US wildcard Nathan Pasha.
Only one of Tuesday's nine first-round matches lasted a full three sets.
