Matosevic replaces hurt Cilic in Brisbane

Marin Cilic's withdrawal has opened up a spot for Marinko Matosevic to join fellow Australians Lleyton Hewitt, Bernard Tomic in Brisbane.

Marinko Matosevic has joined the field for next week's Brisbane International after US Open champion Marin Cilic withdrew because of a right shoulder injury.

The withdrawal of the world No.9 opened up a spot for the 75th-ranked Matosevic to join fellow Australians Lleyton Hewitt, Bernard Tomic and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the men's draw.

Cilic wished Matosevic all the best on Twitter.

"Very sad I had to withdraw from @BrisbaneTennis tournament. At least happy for my friend #matosevic who got in instead of me."

The final two wildcard entries into the men's draw will be announced in the coming days.

Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov and Juan Martin del Potro are already confirmed.

"It's unfortunate Marin won't be fit to compete in Brisbane and we wish him all the best for his recovery," tournament director Cameron Pearson said.

"(But) with a strong local contingent and some of the biggest international stars all coming to Brisbane, it's certainly shaping up to be another great tournament."
