Matterson unsure on Titans coaching role

Gold Coast stand-in coach Terry Matterson says he will wait until the season is over before deciding whether he wants to apply to be the NRL club's head coach.

Gold Coast interim co-coach Terry Matterson says he is yet to put his name forward for the NRL club's head coaching role next season.

Along with fellow assistant Craig Hodges, Matterson is at the Titans' helm after Neil Henry's axing last week.

Matterson, who coached English Super League club Castleford Tigers from 2005 to 2011 and the USA in the 2013 World Cup, said any decision on his own coaching future would be reserved until after the Titans' final game.

The Titans play second-placed Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Saturday .

They have been ravaged by injury and given Matterson little time to think about his plans for 2018.

"I just want to get this game, get this season done, then we'll think about moving forward about what's going to happen," he said.

"It's not something that I've really thought about."

With so many key players expected to be on the sidelines, Matterson admitted anything could happen against the Roosters.

"It's not easy, not too sure what to expect," he said.

"We've had nothing to lose for a few weeks so that's the message, to enjoy footy.

"But you enjoy footy when you're on the front foot and we just haven't had enough footy so we need to make sure we at least get a 50-50 share of possession."
