Replicating the feats of Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara is top of the list for recalled Australian opener Matthew Renshaw, who has no problems being labelled boring.

The Queenslander is just 22 but will return to the Test fold for the third time after being selected in the squad to play in Brisbane, while he will also play the Sri Lankans as part of a strong CA XI outfit in Hobart next week.

He said the trials and tribulations of selection were just part of life as a professional cricket and that watching Pujara dominate Australia this summer had steeled belief in his own method.

"I love batting, I love being called boring," Renshaw said.

"I get called a lot of names, boring isn't the worst.

"Everyone talks about Kohli and Rahane, but Pujara was unbelievable and showed how good he was mentally to bat for so long."

Along with state teammate Joe Burns, Renshaw is a chance to play in this month's pink-ball Gabba Test against Sri Lanka despite averaging just 19 in this season's Sheffield Shield.

But he was unlucky to miss out on a cap in the United Arab Emirates after three hundreds in both County cricket and the back end of the Sheffield Shield.

He has a century and three 50s from 11 Tests, including a patient knock of 184 in his last game for Australia on home soil.

Renshaw and Burns were parachuted in to open for Australia following the Cape Town ball-tampering incident but neither have played in the six Tests that have followed.

"That's the life of a cricketer isn't it; you go in, go out and that's just life," Renshaw said of his selection rollercoaster.

"I try to deal with it as well as I can and I think this time with the Heat (in the BBL) probably helped me get over the disappointment of missing out in that India series."
