Maxwell, Finch face off in BBL derby clash

Housemates Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch will do battle on Saturday night in the BBL derby clash between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades.

It's not clear who's the untidy one and who's the neat freak in this Big Bash League version of the odd couple.

But we do know things are a lot quieter around the house when Glenn Maxwell's away.

Melbourne Renegades' captain Aaron Finch has taken in his Victoria Sheffield Shield and Australia T20 international teammate as a tenant.

The big-hitting pair will go head to head on Saturday at Etihad Stadium when the Renegades (2-2 win-loss) host Maxwell's Melbourne Stars, who are unbeaten after three games.

"We've both been away. He got back last night which was lucky for me, a bit more quiet time around the house," Finch told reporters on Friday.

"It's been nice having the house to myself for a couple of days."

The cheeky Maxwell was quick to point out the Stars had won their previous derby clash at the MCG on December 20.

"I'm looking forward to, hopefully, going two-nil up on him," Maxwell said.

"There was a little bit of talk last night. I think there'll be a little bit more tonight and tomorrow morning."

Finch has scored two half-centuries in the BBL from four matches and his 156 off 63 balls against England in August 2013 is a world-record score in T20 internationals.

"Finch talks about his world record non-stop. I think he's probably living off that a little bit," Maxwell said.

"Hopefully we can take him down.

"It's a great thing to play against a guy you play with for most of the year, really enjoyable. A bit of white-line fever comes into it as well.

"We all go as hard as we can at each other, and then hopefully have a few beers later."

Test-squad member James Faulkner has been released to play for the Stars, while the Renegades will boast a strong pace attack led by fit-again James Pattinson who has claimed 7-60 in two matches.

"We're confident that the attack we've got is the best one we can find and I can't see too many better around," Finch said.

The Renegades will also field a strong slow-bowling combination including Aaron O'Brien and Sri Lanka wizard Muttiah Muralitharan.

"'Finchy' will probably tell you he's the number two spinner," Maxwell said.

"He got me out last game so I'll be doing my best not to let that happen again."
