May not Suns' saviour, says Lynch

Tom Lynch says Steven May isn't Gold Coast's saviour ahead of their match against Geelong on Saturday night.

Gold Coast spearhead Tom Lynch is looking forward to the likely return of Steven May, but doesn't expect him to be their saviour in Saturday night's AFL clash against high-flying Geelong.

Co-captain May injured his hamstring in the Suns' 26-point win over Carlton in round four and if he can come through two training sessions this week unscathed, he'll shape up against the third-placed Cats at Metricon Stadium.

The Suns have never won a game without May in the last three years, but Lynch says fans shouldn't expect too much of the defender on his return.

"He's not going to be our saviour so to speak, he brings that leadership and plenty of experience," Lynch said. "He's really looking forward to coming back and hopefully will shore up our defence."

With the Suns coming off consecutive losses, midfield star Gary Ablett has found some much-needed form ahead of the clash against his former side.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist gathered 45 disposals, 27 contested possessions and 10 inside-50s as the Suns went down to North Melbourne on Saturday night.

Ablett had faced questions about his commitment to the Suns after a lacklustre start to the season, having been denied a return home to Geelong.

"He's had such a high benchmark his whole career and still getting high numbers like that is unbelievable - he really led from the front," Lynch said.

"I'm looking forward to him hopefully doing the same this weekend.

"After round two, particular areas of the media questioned whether he's still got the hunger and drive and he's answered that pretty emphatically."

The Suns are also likely to welcome back David Swallow, who was rested last week in line with his pre-season management schedule.
