Moses Mbye admits the decision of Des Hasler to start him at five-eighth ahead of the fit-again Josh Reynolds against South Sydney last Friday was a huge boost to his confidence.
Mbye impressed in the three matches he filled in for Reynolds - including slotting home the winning field goal against the Wests Tigers - after he the NSW star broke his arm in round one.
He was initially named on the bench for the explosive clash with the Rabbitohs only for Hasler to make the surprise switch just before kick-off.
"I guess it was an encouraging sign for me, but he (Reynolds) was making his return after being injured," Mbye said.
"He was chasing a bit of match fitness and is one of those blokes who can play come on late and add a bit of spark to the game.
The Queenslander played in last year's grand final at hooker and demonstrated his versatility by filling in at centre after Tim Lafai injured his knee in the first half against the Rabbitohs.
It's in that role where he'll face St George Illawarra on Sunday and although he openly desires to be a full-time No.6 he doesn't see being viewed as a utility player as frustrating.
It will also potentially make him a target for other clubs when his contract expires at the end of next season and even led to whispers of a potential State of Origin bench role if his current form continues.
"I don't see it as a curse being able to play in different roles," he said.
"There are a lot of players who've played a lot of games off the bench and can play a lot of positions and I want to become one of those.
"But five-eighth is where I have done most of my football, I've trained a lot there under Des and that is where I want to play full-time.
"I've played a few positions here, including centre, and I know my role and I'll do my best for the team wherever I am picked."
