Moses Mbye is refusing to point the finger at Canterbury over his premature exit from the club.
Mbye described his final game in Bulldogs colours on Saturday as the worst team performance he had been involved in during his four-and-a-half NRL seasons at Belmore.
His farewell party was spoilt by a rampant Gold Coast who ran out 32-10 winners in what was a low point in a turbulent season for the family club.
It appears the salary cap squeeze that forced Mbye to make a mid-season switch to the Wests Tigers and the resulting confusion finally wrought a toll on the side's performance.
Mbye had over a year to run on his deal but will instead turn up to Tigers headquarters at Concord on Monday to begin a new chapter in his career.
"I'd rather have seen out my contract but the situation we're in is quite unique," Mbye said.
"To be fair, the current administration has inherited a lot of the issues.
"The most effective thing was to start shifting a couple of players along and unfortunately one of them was myself. But that's how it works when you get in these situations. The club's done nothing wrong by me."
Mbye was effectively moved on due to the previous administration's decision to sign several players to heavily back-ended deals which resulted in the side facing unworkable salary cap problems next year.
Under former coach Des Hasler, they reached the 2012 and 2014 grand finals but were never able to deliver the premiership the club so desperately wanted.
Mbye refused to paint himself as a victim and only praised the club for bringing him down from Queensland as a teenager and offering him a start.
"The way it works, they seek premiership windows," Mbye said.
"Our previous administration was under the impression that it was our window to get a premiership.
"Results fix everything. Unfortunately we haven't been getting results for the last 24 months.
"When you're not getting results you're looking for answers. And the more results you don't get, the deeper you're digging. We're digging pretty deep because we've lost a number of games now."
