McCartney leaves Bulldogs for GWS in AFL

Greater Western Sydney have poached Western Bulldogs' Jason McCartney to head up their AFL list management department.

More off-field changes are afoot at the Western Bulldogs with list manager Jason McCartney departing to join Greater Western Sydney.

McCartney leaves after six years with the Bulldogs in which he helped compile their 2016 AFL premiership side.

He will start with the Giants early next year.

The expansion club severed ties with previous list manager Craig Cameron earlier this month after learning he intended jumping ship to Gold Coast.

Giants football boss Wayne Campbell says McCartney has a proven record as a highly regarded administrator.

"Jason's strength is in list management and we feel he will complement Adrian Caruso and his recruiting team," Campbell said on Wednesday.

"His work in managing the Western Bulldogs' list and TPP, culminating in the 2016 premiership, has been outstanding and we feel he will be a perfect addition to the Giants football department."

The Bulldogs are yet to announce McCartney's replacement.

They last month appointed former St Kilda official Ameet Bains chief executive to replace retiring Gary Kent.

McCartney will be remembered for a number of astute draft selections at the Bulldogs.

Premiership players Caleb Daniel, Lachie Hunter and Zaine Cordy were all late picks during McCartney's stint, while Joel Hamling was snared as a delisted free agent.

McCartney will reunite with star Giants including Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron and Stephen Coniglio whom he worked with as high performance coach of the AIS-AFL Academy.
