McKay to step down as Blues' football boss

Andrew McKay will call time on his seven years as Carlton football boss at the end of the 2018 season.

Former captain Andrew McKay will end his seven-year tenure as head of football at AFL club Carlton at the end of the season.

McKay took on the role in late 2011 after spending six years working with the AFL in various roles including as chairman of the match review panel.

He had previously played 244 games for the Blues in a decorated career from 1993-2003.

"The club clearly means a lot to me but the time is right to step away at the end of the season," said McKay, who has a veterinary science degree.

"I have been here for seven years as an administrator and 11 as a player - the Carlton environment is all I know.

"I need to experience other environments to enable me to develop further.

"I am really open-minded to new professional challenges out there within the industry and more broadly in time to come, but I firmly believe that Carlton's football programs are now in a good position and the club is on track to get back to sustained success."

McKay was a member of the Blues' most recent premiership team in 1995 and was later inducted into the club's Hall of Fame.
