McKinnon, Smith to make up: Johns

The much-publicised spat involving Alex McKinnon and Cameron Smith will soon be sorted when the players meet to discuss their differences.

Alex McKinnon and Cameron Smith will soon catch up to discuss their differences and bury the hatchet, according to Newcastle legend Matt Johns.

Johns told Triple M Grill Team the two were planning to meet after McKinnon's interview on 60 Minutes where he criticised Smith for his on-field comments following the tackle that left him a quadriplegic in March last year and his apparent lack of contact since.

"They are planning to catch up," said Johns. "There doesn't need to be cameras there or audio.

"They will bury the hatchet, there's no doubt about it. The sooner the two boys get to catch up, the better," said Johns.

Johns said he met with the Australian captain in Brisbane following Queensland's Origin victory.

Smith was not granted a right of reply in the Channel Nine interview and has remained silent since.

He refused to be interviewed by Channel Nine at half-time during the State of Origin decider last week.
