Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin has signed a one-year contract extension and will line up for a 16th AFL season.

Fremantle have confirmed veteran defender Luke McPharlin will line up for a 16th AFL season.

McPharlin, who played only 13 games this year due to injury, has signed a one-year contract extension.

Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd was thrilled the 32-year-old decided to extend his 238-game career.

"Luke is a champion performer and one of the most respected players and leaders at the club," Lloyd said.

"He's a tremendous athlete and a complete professional, so we're confident he will play at the high level we've come to expect from him."
