Meares through to second round of keirin

Sprint queen Anna Meares is targeting a record-breaking 11th world title in the keirin competition at the track cycling world championships in Paris.

Australian sprint queen Anna Meares could still yet become the most prolific women's track cycling world champion in history by claiming her 11th gold medal at the world titles in Paris.

The 31-year-old Australian legend has progressed through to the second round of the women's kierin - her final event - with an easy win the first round on Sunday.

Meares has previously won the keirin title in 2011 and 2012.

The heat win comes after a disappointing ride in the individual sprint on Friday when Meares failed to make the quarter-finals.

Compatriot Stephanie Morton, who had her best world championship sprint competition by finishing fourth, also easily won her first kierin heat to progress to the second round.

Meares currently has 10 world championships titles - the same number as France's Felicia Ballanger.

She's been on the verge of making history all week but had to settle for bronze in the team sprint and silver in the 500m time trial on the opening days of competition.
