Mechanic jailed for home invasion

An Adelaide home invader, who was stabbed during the altercation, has been jailed for seven years three months

One of three disguised men involved in a terrifying home invasion in which a gun was fired has been jailed for at least three years and six months.

Dominic Ietto, who himself had previously been a home invasion victim, received life-threatening stab wounds from a householder during the subsequent scuffle.

On Wednesday, Justice David Lovell jailed the 27-year-old mechanic for seven years and three months with a non-parole period of three-and-a-half years.

Ietto pleaded guilty in the District Court to aggravated charges of serious criminal trespass in a place of residence and attempted robbery on April 16, 2013, at Kudla, on Adelaide's northern outskirts.

Decorated former soldier Michael Quintrell, 32, had already been jailed for the same offences, but the third invader has never been caught.

The trio stormed the house of a drug dealer who was growing cannabis plants hydroponically in the shed and who stabbed Quintrell and Ietto during the confrontation.

Justice Lovell said Ietto would probably have died if Quintrell had not taken him to hospital.

The trio, who wanted drugs and money, terrified the dealer and two other residents, a disabled woman and her son.

She told the court she was now an emotional, nervous mental wreck who now barricades herself in her new home and keeps a knife under her pillow.

The judge accepted that Ietto was unaware any criminal activity was to take place until they arrived at the house, he was unarmed and did not take possession of a gun until he was inside.

Earlier in 2013, Ietto was a victim of a frightening home invasion related to a drug debt.
