Medical care depends on suburb: report

There are massive variations in the medical treatment Australians get depending on where they live, a new report has found.

Where Australians live influences the medical treatment they receive, according to a new study.

One of the greatest variations revealed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care's report for 2013/14 shows dispensing psychotropic drugs for kids with ADHD was 75 times higher in one area than another.

The Atlas of Healthcare Variation report also showed women in regional areas are five times more likely to undergo a hysterectomy for abnormal bleeding than those in the city and found a wide variation in the numbers of older people being prescribed anti-psychotic drugs.
