Medical research fund to be delayed

The federal government's medical research fund is set to be delayed while a Senate committee conducts an inquiry on the legislation.

The federal government's Medical Research Future Fund is likely to be delayed after the Senate referred its establishment to an inquiry.

The government in the May budget announced the $20 billion fund would be established from August 1, subject to the passage of legislation.

But that legislation has now been referred to a Senate committee for inquiry, which isn't due to report back until August 10.
