Medicare levy threshold rises

Federal Labor has helped wave through parliament a rise in the Medicare levy threshold for low-income families.

Legislation, which increases the threshold for families with a combined income of $35,261, passed the Senate on Thursday.

Australian taxpayers hand over two per cent of their taxable income to pay for Medicare.
