Police say anti-virus software millionaire John McAfee is still a ‘person of interest’ over the murder of his neighbour in Belize a year ago, but McAfee himself continues to protest his innocence.
“There is not a shred of evidence,” he told Dateline’s David O’Shea. “I had nothing whatsoever to do with the murder of Gregory Faull.”
Already a household name for establishing the anti-virus software company, McAfee gained new notoriety by going on the run to Guatemala following the shooting death.
He invited a film crew to follow him, but after being detained, he feigned a heart attack to get himself deported to the United States.
Seemingly loving the celebrity attention, he’s now turned to producing YouTube videos that highlight his love of women and weapons.
“It’s a lot of fun,” he says. “The reason I do these videos is that I’ve got to keep the public interested in me.”
But Greg Faull’s family in Florida are becoming increasingly irritated by his antics.
“Why would he run?” asks his father Arthur. “Why did he not answer the questions? And if he has nothing to hide, why doesn’t he speak?”
“It’s very frustrating to find that he gets all of the attention and my son is a kind of prop for his infamy,” he says.
Police in Belize say the case is still open, and they still want to know where McAfee was on the night of the murder.
