A 95-year-old vintage car enthusiast is still missing a week after embarking on a solo road trip from Melbourne's east to the NSW south coast.

Ronald McMaster headed off from his Toorak home last Saturday, bound for a car club rally in Bermagui, where he was expected to arrive the following day.

The great-grandfather was seen refilling his cream/grey 1967 Vanden Plas sedan, with the number plates 987 84H, at a service station on the Princes Highway at Nar Nar Goon about 9am on Saturday.

Police have confirmed the last official sighting of him was in Rosedale about midday the same day.

A witness reported seeing a man matching Mr Master's description on the side of the Princes Highway between Cann River and the NSW border at 5.30am on Monday May 6, but that report remains unconfirmed.

Mr McMaster's car has also not been found.

He has lived independently since his wife died in 2012.

"Our family call him Peter Pan because he seems so ageless, he was still playing tennis at 92," his family said in a statement.

"He is fiercely independent and has a passion for vintage cars, he is a member of two car clubs. He has participated in many club rallies with Austin A40 and Wolseley clubs.

"We are asking for anyone who may have seen our dad or his distinctive car to please contact Prahran police station."

Ronald is Caucasian, about 180cm tall, of thin build with grey hair and was last seen wearing a red jumper over a blue shirt and grey trousers.
