A massive clean-up has begun after an out-of-control BMW destroyed at least four cars and structurally damaged a townhouse in a late-night crash in Melbourne.
The BMW crashed in Roxburgh Park around 11pm on Monday after trying to overtake a Mazda.
It hit a light pole and parked cars, flipped, and slammed into the garage of a townhouse, causing severe damage.
The Mazda also crashed after hitting the felled light pole.
The sound of the smash attracted a large crowd and there were reports locals armed themselves with baseball bats to stop the drivers getting away.
Victoria Police couldn't confirm those reports.
"It was really crazy, people were everywhere, you didn't know what was going on," local resident Kylie Odisho told the Nine Network on Tuesday.
Police arrested two Greenvale men, aged 27 and 19, who'd been in the BMW, but later released them pending further inquiries.
The investigation is being hampered by the structural damage to the townhouse.
