A teenage girl fought off an attacker with her school bag as he attempted to abduct her in Melbourne.

The 14-year-old girl was walking through a Dandenong park on Thursday morning when a man attempted to grab her from behind, police said on Friday.

The girl got away, but the man chased her and tried to grab her again. So she hit him with her bag and he ran from the park.

Police have released a FACE image and CCTV picture of the man.
