Melb woman 'brainwashed' to marry IS man

The family of a Melbourne woman who reportedly fled to Syria to marry a IS terrorist fighter say they are working with authorities to bring her home.

A young Melbourne woman has reportedly snuck off to Syria to marry an Islamic State terrorist fighter.

The family of Zehra Duman say she was brainwashed and they are working with authorities to bring her home, News Limited reports.

The 21-year-old travelled to meet Melbourne-raised Mahmoud Abdullatif who has turned Muslim extremist and joined IS terrorist fighters in the Middle East.

The pair announced their marriage online earlier this month and are believed to be living in Raqqa.

The Attorney-General's department said it did not comment on specific security or intelligence matters.

The Australian government strongly advises Australians not to travel to Syria or Iraq, where the dangerous security situation means consular assistance is no longer available.
