Melb woman murdered by husband: court

A mother-of-two found stabbed to death in her Melbourne home was murdered by her husband, a Supreme Court jury has found.

A Melbourne mother and community worker who died from stab wounds was murdered by her husband, a Supreme Court jury has found.

Brian Robert Browning, 54, was charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of Catherine Elizabeth Browning, his wife of more than 20 years, after her body was found in their family home on December 19, 2013.

Browning, of Skye in the city's southeast, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

During his trial, he blamed sleeping tablets for the stabbing.

Police found the body of Mrs Browning, 47, in the bedroom of the pair's Skye home in Melbourne's south-east.

The mother of two daughters worked for Family Life, a support service for disadvantaged families.

Browning will return to court for a plea hearing on July 31.
