An Australian Islamic State supporter who called for an anti-Islamic event in Texas to be attacked has now posted a link online to a guidebook that explains how to join the extremist group.

The 50-page e-book, called "Hijrah (Journey) to the Islamic State", was tweeted overnight by a user known as Australi Witness who has 410 Twitter followers.

It was previously posted to Islamic State supporters via social media on March 14 this year.

The same man had posted tweets calling for an attack on an anti-Islamic event in Texas, days before it was carried out, and last week uploaded the addresses of synagogues in Australia and the locations of Anzac Day services.

He describes the document posted overnight as a "helpful guide" on travelling to the Middle East to join IS.

Asked about Australi Witness, the Australian Federal Police said on Tuesday it "doesn't generally confirm or deny who it is or is not investigating, nor does it comment on matters of intelligence".

But Fairfax Media reports that US Intelligence Group SITE said Australi Witness has a "prestige" position in online jihadi circles and is "part of the hard core of a group of individuals who constantly look for targets for other people to attack".

SITE executive director Rita Katz said he actively seeks recruits for IS.

The e-book lists the Twitter accounts of Islamic State fighters in the Middle East who can be contacted for help, maps to IS cities and safe border crossings.

The guide includes chapters on how fighters enter and leave Syria and what to bring.

The man had posted tweets calling for an attack on the event in Texas, including sharing a map of the community centre in Garland where the attack occurred.

"Kuffar (disbelievers) are holding a large Draw Muhammed (PBUH) event in Garland, Texas on May 3rd. Please spread to US brothers," he said in a tweet.

Texas police shot dead two gunmen after they opened fire on a security guard outside the cartoon contest on Sunday.
