Melbourne measles cases total seven

Health authorities have confirmed four new measles cases in Melbourne, taking to seven the number of diagnoses in recent weeks.

Four more people in Melbourne have been confirmed as having measles, taking the current outbreak to seven cases, the health department says.

The latest diagnoses were confirmed on Thursday and have links to other cases found since September 6, Victoria's deputy chief health officer Brett Sutton said.

The four new cases were infectious while at a number of places across Melbourne, including the MCG, Melbourne Airport, Chadstone shopping centre and DFO Essendon.

All the cases contracted measles in Australia, except one patient infected in Romania and who arrived in Melbourne from Bucharest on flight QR904 on September 13.

The health department said people should be alert for measles if they attended any of the numerous locations, or flew on the Romanian flight.

Symptoms could include a rash - which generally starts on the face - a fever and signs similar to a common cold.

Symptoms may have started anytime from September 5 and new cases may show symptoms up until October 15, Dr Sutton said.
