Melbourne has shivered through its coldest morning of the year following storms that caused flash flooding in Geelong.
The mercury plummeted to 12.6C at 7.03am (AEDT) on Thursday, making it the coldest morning of 2014, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The cold snap came on the back of flash flooding in Geelong on Wednesday, with storms dumping 50mm of rain in one hour alone at the Geelong Racecourse, bureau spokeswoman Andrea Peace said.
"That's really considerable rainfall in a short period of time," she said.
The SES received 180 calls for help, with most coming from Geelong.
The rains caused flooding and minor building damage there and floodwaters trapped two people in their cars.
The wild weather also caused the facade of the Geelong Miner's Cottage to collapse, SES spokesman Stefan Delatovic said.
The highest rainfall was at Geelong racecourse, which recorded 54mm of rain.
The next highest was Warburton which had 50mm while areas to Melbourne's northeast and east also recorded high falls.
