They're rocking the rails and using music, song and dance on the public transport network to rail against racism.

Highlighting the diversity of our population, the Multicultural Express hit the tracks in Melbourne on Sunday, stopping at three stations along the way that showcased the sounds and tastes of predominant ethnic communities.

The many colours of Africa painted Frankston, Mentone became little Instanbul, while the Caulfield station car park played host to a touch of classical Indian dance.

It's hoped the celebration of multiculturalism will act as a timely counterpoint to some of the recent adverse publicity surrounding incidents of racial abuse on public transport in the city - incidents captured by fellow passengers that have attracted unwelcome attention.
