Melbourne United too classy for Taipans

Melbourne United have thrashed the Cairns Taipans 83-65 for their fourth-straight NBL win.

Melbourne United have ruined NBL veteran Mark Worthington's 300th game with a decisive 83-65 win over the Cairns Taipans.

The two-time Olympian did all he could to secure Cairns' third-straight win on Wednesday night but his game-high 22 points weren't enough.

Neither was a strong effort by Taipans import Torrey Craig, who showed his worth with 20 points at the Cairns Convention Centre.

The win takes top-of-the-table United's winning streak to four ahead of another game against Cairns in Melbourne on Friday.

The Taipans trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter but lost ground to be down 31-43 at halftime.

Melbourne extended their lead to 67-48 by the end of the third and continued to outclass Cairns until the final buzzer.

Cairns remain in sixth place on the ladder, with their chances of making the play-offs getting fainter.
