Respondents to Time Out's Global Dating Survey said French is no longer considered the world's sexiest language, with the British accent chosen as the most attractive by 26.7 per cent of the 11,000 respondents, followed by American, Irish and Australian accents.

The survey results showed Sydney has the world's happiest singletons, with 31 per cent of people describing themselves as "proudly single", compared to 45 per cent of respondents in New York who declared themselves "sad to be single".

According to the survey Paris was ranked as the city with the best dating scene, followed by Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Chicago.

Meanwhile, 53 per cent of people said they kissed on the first date and one in ten believe sex on a first date is acceptable.
