Memorial service for SA shark victim

The mother of SA shark victim Sam Kellett says his life will be celebrated at a memorial service at the Adelaide school where he taught.

The life and achievements of shark victim Sam Kellett are to be celebrated at a memorial service at the Adelaide school where he taught.

Sam Kellett, 28, was spear fishing with friends on February 8 about 100 metres off the popular Goldsmith beach, south of Edithburgh, on the Yorke Peninsula, when he was attacked.

Police divers only found his spear gun and lead weights.

His mother Ann Kellett said a memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon at Glenunga International High School where her son was in his second year of teaching English and English as a Second Language.

"We want Sam's life to be defined, not by the way he died, but by the way he lived," she said.

"The memorial will focus on Sam's energy, love for life, close bonds with family and friends, sense of humour and his love of teaching."

She said her son was a talented teacher and a much loved member of his school community.

His family have previously said the experienced diver had a great love of the ocean and respect for sharks.

"He knew he was a visitor in their backyard, and the last thing he would want is for this shark, or any other, to be hunted down and culled," they said.
