World champions Mercedes have dismissed suggestions they may be quitting Formula One racing next year.

Former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan had suggested in an interview with Germany's Auto Bild Motorsport that Mercedes may end its engagement as a works team after the 2018 season, sell the team and continue in the sport as engine suppliers only.

But Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff insisted "the reports are totally unfounded and nothing more than malicious speculation of an individual."

Wolff said the team was contracted to F1 until 2020 and in talks with its new owners about an extension.
