MH17 memorial service gets underway

A memorial service for the 38 Australians killed in the downing of flight MH17 a year ago has begun in the Great Hall of Parliament House.

A national service marking the one-year anniversary of the downing of flight MH17 has got underway in Canberra.

Families and dignitaries have gathered in the Great Hall of Parliament House, after a memorial plaque was unveiled in a nearby garden.

The ceremony will remember the 38 Australian citizens and residents killed over the Ukraine.
