Rin Norris and Anthony Maslin gathered with friends at a junior football match yesterday, where their 12-year-old son Mo was due to play.
He and his younger siblings – Evie, 10, and Otis, 8 – had been travelling with their grandfather Nick Norris on the downed plane MH17.
Members of the Scarborough Sea Eagles held a moment's silence and released balloons in remembrance of the young siblings.
A special school assembly was held at Scotch College in Perth, where Mo had attended since last year.
Headmaster Alec O'Connell said separate assemblies was held for Year 7 students and Mo's class to help them understand how to process any feelings they were experiencing.
Dr O'Connell said staff returning to work on Monday attended a private chapel service in honour of the Maslin and Norris families.
At Evie and Otis' school, Deanmore Primary in Karrinyup, principal Jeanette Metcalf and lead school psychologists have been preparing for students to return on Monday. School mates came to school with flowers and grief-stricken parents by their sides.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Education WA said teachers would be keeping an eye out for students who may be particularly distressed.
The assemblies come ahead of a national day of mourning for the Australian victims of MH17.
