Only weeks after baseballers played on the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground, Test cricket captain Michael Clarke has returned the favour, being involved in throwing out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game.

But perhaps officials at the St Louis Cardinals knew Clarke is better known in cricket for his batting rather than his bowling, because he didn't actually throw out the pitch himself.

Instead, it was his wife Kyly who stepped up to the plate to try out her arm and open the Cardinals' match against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on Saturday, with Clarke serving as catcher.

According to a picture Kyly posted on Instagram, Clarke wore a green and gold baseball glove to catch the ball.

It's not known if Kyly's pitch made it all the way to her husband, or if she bounced it in front of him.

The Cardinals went on to win the game 10-4.
