Michelle Obama to star in US sitcom

America's first lady Michelle Obama is to make a cameo appearance on hit US sitcom Parks and Recreation.

Michelle Obama will make a special appearance on the season six finale of hit US sitcom Parks and Recreation.

The US President Barack Obama's wife will guest star in the Amy Poehler-led comedy, which centres on a group of small town government workers in the Parks and Recreation Department in Indiana.

It has not been revealed how American first lady will fit into the show, but the scene was recently filmed in Miami, Florida.

On Tuesday, Poehler was a special guest at Obama's Let's Move event in Miami, adding some star power to the initiative that encourages children to live healthier lifestyles.

This isn't the first time an American politician has made a cameo on the series - Vice President Joe Biden, Arizona Senator John McCain, California Senator Barbara Boxer and former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe have all appeared in past episodes.

* Parks and Recreation airs in Australia on the Seven Network.
