Mick Jagger's rep slams split rumours

Mick Jagger's spokesperson has dismissed rumours his relationship with L'Wren Scott had been on the rocks before the designer's sudden death.

Mick Jagger's spokesperson has slammed the "horrible" rumours he split from L'Wren Scott shortly before her sudden death.

The 70-year-old Rolling Stones frontman had dated the model and fashion designer since 2001 and was in Perth with his band when he received the tragic news on Tuesday.

The New York Post ran with a story indicating the couple had been on the rocks before she was discovered lifeless in her New York apartment by her assistant. They also cited a law enforcement source that described L'Wren as Mick's "former" girlfriend, as well as rumours that she had confided about the end of their romance to a friend.

But a representative for the star in the US blasted editors at the newspaper in a scathing comment on Monday evening local time.

"The story in the New York Post re a split between Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott is 100 per cent untrue," the spokesperson said.

"There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick."

Jagger's spokesperson said earlier in the day the rocker was "shocked and devastated" by news of Scott's sudden death.

There is still no official word on reports the Stones have cancelled their first Australian concert, which had been scheduled to begin in the West Australian capital on Wednesday.
