Mickle bombs out in javelin qualifying

Reigning silver medallist Kim Mickle has bombed out in the qualifying round of the women's javelin at the world athletics championships.

Mickle had two fouls and one mediocre effort of 59.83m.

It was a very similar scenario to her 2012 London Olympics campaign when the national record holder also failed to even reach the 60m mark in qualifying.

Mickle bounced back from that Olympic disappointment to win silver at the 2013 world titles in Moscow and gold at last year's Commonwealth Games.

Fellow Australians Kathryn Mitchell and Kelsey-Lee Roberts were also eliminated at the qualifying stage in Beijing on Friday evening.
