This year's list includes a diverse range of contributions and service across all fields, including professional endeavours, community service, Defence and Emergency Service personnel, and acts of bravery.
Academic honourees include Professor Kym Anderson for his work in reducing poverty in developing countries, Distinguished Professor Judith Clements for her work in cancer research, and Professor Nathan Efron for his work in the field of clinical optometry.
Meanwhile, Archie Roach has also been recognised for significant service to the performing arts, as a singer, song-writer and guitarist.
Former First Lady of East Timor Kirsty Sword Gusmao's service to Australia-Timor-Leste relations has also been honoured.
Hass Dellal and Dr Amad Ismail Mtashar have also been recognised for their service to the multicultural community.
Basketballer Lauren Jackson has been honoured for her work as a professional athlete and mentor to women in sport. Group Captain Fiona Dowse is among the miltary honourees for her exceptional service to the Royal Australian Air Force.
Victorian Andrew Cannon was recognised for his work as a fundraiser and advocate for Indigenous education initiatives, while Dr Barry Christophers was honoured for his work as a general practitioner, working in Indigenous communities.

The Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove says the awards recognise citizens making some of the greatest contributions to the country.
“We are fortunate as a community to have so many outstanding people willing to dedicate themselves to the betterment our nation and it is only fitting that they have today been recognised through the Australian Honours system."
"Today’s recipients now join the company of more than 40,000 women and men whose actions have enriched our community and whose values we hold dear – professionalism, compassion, dedication, generosity, tolerance, and energetic ambition."
Indigenous singer and songwriter, Archie Roach, has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
