'Military projectile' found on Qld beach

A sailor has found what is thought to be unexploded ordnance on a Cape York beach after he went ashore during rough weather.

A solo sailor has found an unexploded military ordnance on a remote Cape York beach.

The 55-year-old Port Douglas man contacted police about the object after he went ashore at Cape Melville during rough weather at the weekend.

Police say the Australian Defence Force has been contacted to inspect the projectile.
