Queenslander Jack Miller will start from the second row at the Australian MotoGP after an inspired run through practice and qualifying.
The 21-year-old made the most of tricky conditions at Phillip Island to finish in fifth spot behind pole sitter, and newly-crowned world champion Marc Marquez.
"I'm kicking myself that I'm not on the front row," Miller said.
"I probably would have been if I didn't hit the kerb in the last corner and nearly high-sided myself down the (home) straight.
"That's a bit of a shame but it's a good starting point for the race."
After a tough year with injury, Miller reported no lingering physical issues after a trying two days in tricky conditions at the exposed coastal circuit.
He feels like he's ready to put his best foot forward regardless of what the notoriously changeable conditions are doing on Sunday.
"Whatever I say it won't matter - it's Phillip Island and it'll choose the weather," he said.
"We'll take it as it comes, but I'd like a dry race - (nearly) 30 laps around here is a long race, and if you have to do it in the wet it's even worse.
"I believe we've got speed in the dry as well as the wet, so I'm not too stressed either way, but I'd like it to be dry."
Fellow Queenslander Mike Jones, an injury replacement rider on an Avintia Racing Ducati, will start from 19th position after only taking over the ride last week in Japan.
"My feet still haven't hit the ground after being told I was going to race at Motegi last week," Jones said.
"Obviously it's a fantastic feeling to qualify for my home MotoGP.
"It's just been an incredible experience."
