Miller winning race to ride in Aus MotoGP

Australian MotoGP rider Jack Miller has declared himself a certain starter in his home grand prix at Phillip Island.

Australian MotoGP ace Jack Miller is on track to ride at Phillip Island less than three weeks after breaking his leg.

Miller fractured his tibia in a low-speed accident on his trial bike near his home base in Andorra on October 3.

The 22-year-old had a plate and eight screws inserted just below his right knee in a Barcelona hospital, sparking fears he would miss his home race.

But after missing the weekend's Japanese MotoGP, the Queenslander has declared himself a certain starter at Phillip Island this weekend.

"I'll be right for it," Miller told the Red Bull website.

"The leg is pretty good. Almost 100 per cent, I'd say.

"I'm not sure what I physically have to do when I get to Phillip Island to be formally passed to race next weekend ... but I've got no dramas whatever I have to do.

"I've made massive progress over the last week.

"It's not just that it's Australia that I'm ready to get back racing next weekend - wouldn't matter where it was I'd be right to ride."

With three races left in the 2017 season, Miller is 13th in championship standings with two sixth-place finishes - at Assen and San Marino - his best results.

Factory Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso narrowed Repsol Honda star Marc Marquez's world championship lead to 11 points with a thrilling win in Japan.

Miller is in his third season in the premier class, with his best result at Phillip Island a 10th-place finish last year.

"The pressure and attention and all of that can get to some people with their home race, but this week coming up is my favourite one of the year," Miller said.

"I can't wait to be back down there at the Island - the track is one thing, but the fans, the people, all the faces you know ... the atmosphere is my favourite and I miss it every year."

Miller will switch teams from Marc VDS Honda to Pramac Ducati next year.
