Mining lobby wants reform from Turnbull

Australia's biggest mining lobby group says Malcolm Turnbull has innate understanding of the need to make Australia more competitive.

Australia's peak mining body says it looks forward to pursuing an "ambitious economic reform and productivity agenda" with new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Minerals Council of Australia chief executive Brendan Pearson said Mr Turnbull had strong credentials as an economic reformer and understood the need to enhance the nation's competitiveness.

The MCA also praised Mr Turnbull's statement on Monday night that he would not change the emissions targets and climate policy set under former prime minister Tony Abbott.
