Coalition frontbencher Angus Taylor has warned it will be difficult for the Liberal Party to continue winning elections without democratising.

In a speech to the Sydney Institute on Tuesday, Mr Taylor blamed self-interested powerbrokers within the party, saying new members were rejected from joining branches and it was too hard to start new branches.

"I do think what you get with very centralised structures is elitist policy and elitist politics."
