Cutting back the opening hours of Service NSW offices is designed to make things easier for customers by boosting staff at the busiest times, the NSW Government says.
From Monday, opening hours at the majority of the state's outlets will be pulled back, a move Labor says is a cost-cutting move that will negatively impact full-time workers.
There were also fears the move could cause Service NSW staff cutbacks, Labor's services spokesman Clayton Barr said on Sunday.
Services Minister Dominic Perrottet said the changes were made based on demand.
"This change is all about making it even easier for our customers, putting on more staff during the busiest times," Mr Perrottet said.
"Ninety-four per cent of people visit the service centres during the new revised hours, so we are tailoring our services to the times when people most need them."
Most Service NSW outlets - which replaced NSW Motor Registries in 2013 - will operate from 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays, back from 7am to 7pm, and until 3pm on Saturdays.
Others, including Blacktown, Hurstville, Chatswood and Bondi Junction, will stay open until 6pm on weekdays while Bankstown, Liverpool, Marrickville and Miranda will stay open till 7pm on Thursdays.
Only one outlet, at Wynyard, will operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday.
"We can't waste taxpayer dollars staffing centres serving no one, so we're putting our staff where our customers are," Mr Perrottet said, adding that the average waiting time is less than six minutes.
The new opening hours will have no impact on staff numbers and all staff will continue to be rostered according to their contract hours, a spokesman for the minister said.
