Minjee Lee storms to lead at Vic Open golf

Australian amateur Minjee Lee has stormed to a three-stroke lead after three rounds of the Victorian Open.

Western Australian amateur Minjee Lee is in the box seat to claim her first victory in a professional event after claiming a three-stroke lead with one round to play at the Victorian Open.

Lee fired an impressive six-under-par 68 on another overcast and breezy day on the Beach Course at Thirteenth Beach on Saturday to move to 10-under 212.

The 17-year-old has been in contention in the past couple of weeks at the Ladies Masters and the Women's Australian Open, but she hasn't been able to seal the deal.

Her closest rival is second-round leader Sarah Jane Smith, who carded a level-par 74 on Saturday to be in outright second at seven-under.

Another Australian amateur, Su-Hyun Oh, is outright third at five-under-par after carding a superb 67 on Saturday.

Lee, the reigning Australian amateur champion, made a rocky start with a bogey on the 2nd hole.

But four birdies before the turn plus an eagle at the short par-5 ninth shot her to the top of the leaderboard.

"I just hit one close and then got on a roll," she said.

"The more I put myself into that position, the better I am feeling."

The ACT's Nikki Campbell (72) is in outright fourth spot at four-under 218, while Scotland's Vikki Laing (67) and defending champion Stacey Keating (72) are at two-under-par.

NSW's Sarah Kemp (70), England's Laura Davies (71) and American Hannah Jun (73) share seventh position at one-under.
