Minor parties hopeful in SA by-election

Candidates are hitting the campaign trail ahead of a by-election for the Adelaide Hills seat of Davenport.

Minor party candidates are hopeful of courting support from unhappy voters at an upcoming South Australian by-election.

Voters in the Adelaide Hills seat of Davenport will go to the polls on January 31 for a by-election sparked by the retirement of long-serving Liberal Iain Evans.

The Liberals have held the seat since its creation in 1970 and retained it with an eight per cent margin at last year's state election.

Family First is hopeful candidate Natasha Edmonds will gain from the Liberals' poor recent polling.

"Davenport has always been a conservatively-held seat, and Family First is a conservative party," MLC Robert Brokenshire said.

"We put the people before the power and glory of winning government."

Greens candidate Jody Moate will push for more funding to supplement bushfire prevention measures, as well as improved public transport links to Adelaide's south.

Accountant Sam Duluk will be the Liberal candidate for Davenport, while high school teacher Mark Ward will stand for Labor.
