Missing Bali girl found buried in backyard

Police in Bali say an autopsy shows a missing eight-year-old Indonesian girl died three weeks ago of severe head trauma and had been raped.

An autopsy shows a missing eight-year-old Indonesian girl, discovered buried in the back yard of her adoptive family, died three weeks ago of severe head trauma and had been raped.

Police on the resort island of Bali have revealed details about the discovery of the body of Angeline, in a case that has shocked many in Indonesia.

The eight-year-old was reported missing by her adopted mother last month.

Police found her body buried with her doll in the back yard of her adopted family's house in the capital, Denpasar, on Wednesday, local police chief Ronnie Sompie told Metro TV.

A guard working at the house has been named a suspect, Denpasar police chief Anak Agung Gede Sudana told reporters.

The guard admitted to having raped the girl, but denied killing her, he said.

A doctor who performed the autopsy says Angeline died three weeks ago of severe head trauma after being hit by a large object and that parts of her body showed signed of physical abuse.

Police are questioning six other people, including the girl's adopted mother, who had refused to meet visiting child protection officials and two cabinet ministers while the search was on-going.

The discovery of Angeline's body shocked Indonesia following a widespread social media campaign to find her.
