Friends of a seriously injured Irishman found in a Sydney stairwell five days after he went missing are praying for his recovery.

Donald O'Sullivan, 33, was reported missing by concerned relatives on Sunday evening.

He had last been seen leaving the Tea Gardens Hotel in Bondi Junction the previous morning.

Mr O'Sullivan was found five days later, lying in an emergency stairwell in a commercial building about 150 metres from the Tea Gardens, and had sustained serious head and back injuries.

His brother, Johnnie O'Sullivan, who also lives in Sydney, had been searching with family and friends for Mr O'Sullivan since the weekend.

More than 800 people had joined a Facebook group dedicated to finding the Irish national.

"Thank god for a happy outcome for once," wrote Bernie Glynn.

Another supporter, Esther Dixon-Mitchell, wrote: "God Bless you speedy recovery thank God."

Police believe it is a case of misadventure, and will interview Mr O'Sullivan when his condition allows.
