Missing man, 76, found dead in NSW river

The body of an elderly man, who went missing after swimming in a river, has been located, according to police.

The body of a 76-year-old man has been found in the Clarence River in northern NSW, two days after he went missing while swimming.

The man's body was found on Monday morning a short distance from where he disappeared on Saturday evening, police say.

Emergency services began searching for the man after he failed to return to nearby campgrounds, 70km west of Grafton, with local SES units, the Westpac helicopter and community volunteers involved in the operation.

Police say they have spoken to witnesses and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
